Checking hard disk usage

It happen sometimes that your hard disk especially the partition which you install operating system suddenly get full. You didn't install any new software or downloading any big files.

To check your hard disk usage in detail, you can download WinDirStat software. After installing it, you can delete the files which not in use anymore like temporary files and files in quarantine folder in antivirus software.

Recovery key for Lenovo notebook

Most of laptop like Acer, Compaq, Toshiba and dell use combination of keyboard key to start recovery factory setting. But for Lenovo it have their own key. Normally the key located besides power button.

These are the steps to follow:

Shut down completely the laptop.
Now press on the “One Key Recovery” key at the top of your Keyboard normally besides power button, your Lenovo should boot up. Else hold down the “One Key Recovery” key until it boot up. See image below the circle up button with yellow brush:

Now you may choose “Restore to factory settings” from the screen and proceed for the restoration.

Basic Beep Codes for ABIT BIOS Motherboards

I have one 2nd hand motherboard to change with the spoil one. After putting together all the parts, I can hear one long beep. Right away i know something wrong with the RAM. Because it have 2 pieces of RAM so I take out one of those and the motherboard is working fine.

These are the beep codes for ABIT motherboard. Some of its can be used with other brand of motherboard.

No beep at all – this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board
One beep – board is working fine
One long beep then machine shuts down – faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU
1 short(Beep) System booting is normally
2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error
1 long – 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR
1 long – 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error
1 long – 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error
1 long – 9 short(Beep) ROM Error
Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly
Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem
A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages
Four beeps then machine shuts down. This is because this version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on the fan header. Make sure you attach a fan to the FAN1 or FAN4 header or clear CMOS to reset to default (no checking).

Prevent laptop keyboard problem

From the last post about the cause of your keyboard laptop problem, I want to continue on how to prevent laptop keyboard from having problem. Maybe it is not much but at least you can try to minimize it.

External keyboard – If you are addicted to play games and you only have a laptop to play with, what you can do is using USB external keyboard while playing the game. This will preventing you from damaging your laptop keyboard unconsciously.
Cooler Pad – If your laptop having overheat problem or just little bit overheat, you can use Cooler pad to prevent further damage. Not only you can save your keyboard circuit but also your motherboard. Another prevention is you can limit the use of your laptop like having 20 minutes rest by turning off your laptop every 2 hours usage.
Keyboard Protector – Water spilling is uncontrolled tragedy which you can't predict when to happen. So, by using keyboard protector at least you can minimize the possibilities to damage your laptop keyboard when it is happen.

HP Mini 110-3502TU having Windows problem

I have received one laptop HP Mini 110-3502TU having Windows problem. As we know this is a netbook series and it use Windows 7 starter pack.

I try to access recovery partition and it fail showing:

Status : 0xc000000f
Info:the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

Then I try to enter bios and have hard disk self test and the result showing 'Hard disk 1 Quick 303'. This is the confirmation that hard disk actually have some damage.

Customer want back the netbook as soon as possible so I'll try to reinstall Windows 7 without delete all previous data. It is a successful attempt although very long time is needed to finish the installation. This is the sign of hard disk problem.

After some installation of basic applications, Windows failed to load and luckily can be enter through safe mode. All the data is backed up except some video files which is showing an error while copying..

For the sake of trying, I format the OS partition and reinstall windows for 2nd time. The weird thing is, the installation process running smoothly until I finished the installation of all basic applications.

After testing several times still the laptop running OK and not showing the sign of hard disk problem.

Cause of laptop keyboard problem

Without damage that can be seen with your eyes, keyboard of your laptop can have problem when some of the key is not functional. These are the list of the cause of laptop keyboard problem from my experience:

Playing games – when you use your keyboard of the laptop to play games, later or sooner some of the key will not be functional as you wish. This is due to the usage which you unconsciously press it hard multiple times of some key. Of course you press it with emotional depend of the game result.
Very hot – Laptop can be overheat due to many reason like processor problem and the fan not working properly because of dust. If you let this happen to your laptop for a longer period of time it can effect the keyboard circuit and damage some of the keys.
Water spill – This also can be a factor either it is little or more water spill on your laptop. The first place water will go is right onto the keyboard and that is why in so many cases of water spilling, keyboard will be the most part which broken.

Are you having this problem statement after turning on the power button of your computer:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix this problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc0000225
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

This is actually the indicator that your operating system is crashed. Either you need to repair it or reinstall it. The cause of this problem is virus or you accidentally making the partition dynamic like what happen to one of my customer.

If you want to get your important files just reinstall the windows without reformat the system's partition.

How to discharge notebook’s power

Sometime your laptop suddenly cannot be turn on. The notebook power button led is turn off although you press multiple time the power button. When you ask your friend and he said that maybe your notebook is having motherboard problem.

Before you proceed with that conclusion, I think you need to try to discharge notebook's power first. If your notebook is still cannot be turn on then you can hold on with that conclusion. Bacause some laptop can be turn on after doing power discharge.

These are the step that you need to do:

Power off your notebook.
Unplug the power adapter and battery from your notebook.
Keep pressing on the power button (for approximately 10 seconds)
Connect back the power adapter and battery and try to power on the notebook as usual.

I'm sure some of you will succeed.

Dell Inspiron N4030 cannot be turn on

I'm handling one of the customer laptop which is Dell Inspiron N4030. The problem with this laptop is, it cannot be turn on although i have try to discharge the notebook’s power, I've sent an email to Dell support and they have assist me with solution.

What you need to do if this is happening to your laptop is try to use same method as to run the PSA test to check on the hardware. The step is like this:

Press and hold the <Fn> key and press on Power Button.
Release the button and then release the <Fn> key.

Luckily, the laptop can be turn on at last.

Install Asus webcam WIndows 7

First time installing webcam for Asus laptop using WIndows 7?

The warning pop up showed and saying that this application is only for Asus laptop?

We will give you step by step on what we have done to settle this problem.

Step 1 : Go to Asus website and choose or type your laptop model and series.

Step 2 : Download ATK drivers in the list as you can see in picture below and install it.

Step 3 : Under 'Utilities' download LifeFrame3 Utility and install it. You can open the software and see if the camera is functioning. See picture below:

Step 4 : If the image from the webcam is upside down, you need to install webcam driver. Under 'Camera' download and install right webcam driver. See the image below:
